Lighting Controls Association Adds “EE201: Daylight Harvesting Control” to Its Popular Education Express Program

The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) has announced the availability of EE201: Daylight Harvesting Control, a new course added to its popular Education Express program. Residing at the Association’s website www.aboutlightingcontrols.org, Education Express provides in-depth education about lighting controls and controllable ballast technology, application, system design and commissioning.

Daylight harvesting control can save up to $0.50-$0.75/sq.ft. by enabling the lighting system to modulate light output and power based on monitored light levels, according to one expert. As light levels increase due to ample daylight availability, the daylight harvesting control system dims or switches connected lighting systems, thereby reducing energy consumption and owner operating costs.

EE201: Daylight Harvesting Control, authored by lighting industry educator and journalist Craig DiLouie, provides guidance on developing a successful daylight harvesting control strategy and design. Consisting of 80 pages of text and graphics broken out into four learning modules, the course covers daylighting benefits, design and technique; daylight harvesting strategies and technologies; how to design an effective daylight harvesting control system; and commissioning.

At the conclusion of the course, an optional online comprehension test is available, with automatic grading; a passing grade enables the student to claim education credit. EE201: Daylight Harvesting Control is accredited/registered with the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), which recognizes 6.5 LEUs towards maintenance of Lighting Certified (LC) certification; the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), which recognizes 0.75 CEUs towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) certification; and the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), which recognizes 15 Education Points towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) certification.

“Daylight harvesting can save significant amounts of energy by harvesting the light of the sun, but selecting the right control strategy and designing an effective system requires education to properly match the system to the application,” says says A. J. Glaser , President of the Lighting Controls Association and HUNT Dimming. “EE201: Daylight Harvesting Control is a free resource for the electrical construction industry to help practitioners to design a control system that maximizes energy savings and user comfort.”
